Windows XP 32 Bit to Windows 7 64 Bit?

I'm currently running a 32 Bit copy of Windows XP, on a processor that's 64 Bit capable (DXDIAG specs to follow.) I'm going to be purchasing my copy of Windows 7 by next week most likely, and I was wondering if I can run the 64 Bit with my current set up. I'm going to reformat and do a clean install of Windows 7, as far as I know most of my programs will work with a 64 bit (a few are older, and I'll deal with them not working if they don't. They aren't critical.)

So, can I run Windows 7 64 Bit with my current hardware setup?

I'm most likely purchasing the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit OEM copy. I've used OEM system builder copies before on other systems, and haven't had a problem. So I'm going to stick with that.

Okay everything is fine the only two issues you may have are:

1. Geforce 8600 Gt has been known to cause issues with moving to Windows 7, however most are resolved through a bit of trouble shooting.

2. SoundBlaster live! will work with Windows 7 using vista drivers.

The rest is fine.

Microsoft has a utility for reviewing the hardware and software of a system.
It posts the results of programs and drivers that will run.

I installed Win 7 64 bit and while the install was easy. I took it off after I found that FIrefox 32 bit was not compatiable and I had to hunt for the appropriate software.
Some software may have to recompiled. you have 2 gig - why bother without increasing memory to 4 or more.
64 aint more. But is sounds good to say "I run 64 bit Win7".

I should have said that Firefox 32 failed to install. The 64 bit version I found did run okay.

Someone should address his memory issues: "Memory: 2046MB RAM "

What is the point of having less than 4092 RAM? 32 bit will use up to 3 gig and he does not have that...

Odd that 32 bit Firefox failed to install because most 32 bit applications are executable in a 64 bit OS and FF is most certainly one of them.

If I recall, the 64 bit version of FF is more or less a beta and is behind the 32 bit iteration of Firefox in the way of features though you do get some faster execution thanks to be natively 64 bit.

A lot of people are running Windows 7 with just 2 GB's of RAM just fine. He'll want to turn off SuperFetch, but 2 GB's will be OK.
