I just built a new computer using the Athlon 64. I am currently running Windows XP Pro SP2 on this system, but I also downloaded Windows XP 64 - SP1 and am wondering if there are any advantages to switching to this OS instead of WinXP Pro. I can get most of my hardware drivers in 64-bit extensions, but will this help overall system performance for gaming? Most games are still only written in 32-bit, but could I get a performance increase by changing OS?

Athlon 64 3000+
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
1 GB DDR3200 Memory
200 GB Maxtor harddrive with 8MB cache
DVD +\- RW 8x
ATI Radeon All-in-Wonder 9600XT 128MB

I THINK you have a small performance increase now in those games, either way there are 64-bit written games out there like Far Cry and Unreal Tournament 2004. Problem is that both Ubi Soft and Atari are waiting for MS to release WinXP-64bits. I´d say hang on to your 64bit OS and get a 64 bit written game when they hit the shelves.

Is it a bad thing if there is smoke coming out of my case?
