I know very little about the up and coming release of Windows XP. I was wondering if it will have full gaming functions like in ME or better yet, if gaming will be enhansed.

Guess it wouldn't be the "perfect gamer's OS."

have xp beta here @ work, its sort of a cross between 98/me/nt/2k all rolled together, seems ok for games so far, but have only tested a few.

Next time you wave - use all your fingers

XP will be the perfect gaming OS (as far as Windows is concerned). It's basically the NT kernel, but with a 95/98/ME emulator built in. Games don't even know they're running in NT/2000.

Wow, that's cool. As you can see, I haven't been keeping up with the details of XP :)

Yeah, I've got the beta sitting at home, but I haven't been able to get it installed yet. I have about 4 friends who have the same copy (shh, don't tell Bill), and they say alternately it rocks, or it's just W2k with skin support. The ones who say it's just W2k with skin support are the ones that haven't had any compatibility issues with 2000, though.

""XP will be the perfect gaming OS ... but with a 95/98/ME emulator built in""

If you would know what "emulator" is, you would not say it will be perfect.

Post, we'll do the "search"...

In the same way that Windows 95 started simulating a DOS environment. DOS programs didn't know they were running in Windows, if you didn't want them to.
It'll do basically the same thing. It's not strictly an emulator, but that's the easiest way to describe it.

Yeah, but for Win9x working with DOS programs was native as Win9x was based on it, and for XP working in Win9x mode is not, because it is comletely different OS structure, so it is little different and works differently (more emulation involved 😱)

I hope so; anyway, XP is an awesome OS, the only thing that is bad about is activation, which will be cracked eventually anyway, Office XP already is, heh.

Eventually? I've got the beta cracks on a disk at home. I've heard that the same ones will work on the final version, but that could be wrong or they could change their minds.
