Windows xp computer won't detect wireless networks.

My Lap top used to detect wireless networks, but I had to reset my computer completely. It was set up like it had just been bought. Like Factory settings if that's what it's called. Once I had it reset, it no longer detected wireless networks. The only way I can get it hooked up to the wireless network is by connecting a wireless USB card to my computer, but it doesn't work well at all and most of the time it's signal is so bad that I can't go anywhere on the internet. I have no idea how to fix this problem. How can I get my computer to detect the wireless networks on it's own again?

I'd probably install linux instead of XP.

check the user manual how to reinstall the driver for the wireless and activate the chipset .
