[citation][nom]elusion11[/nom]wow! so many technological dinosaurs on a tech forum. please extinct already.[/citation]

Wow! I never realized that "extinct" was a verb!

I believe I can cite more instances where XP works better than 7 than anyone can cite instances where 7 works better than XP. Mainly because XP is simpler and faster. I have a copy of XP running on a 1GB CF card, and it has over 100MB of free space. With flashfire, the thing is faster than your typical hard drive. 7 would choke and die under such a scenario.

it actually is a verb, just like how the F word is a verb, a noun, and an adjective at the same time, and you can even use the word 3 times in a sentence to form a cognitive sentence. its like me saying, "please die already" but whatever, like someone said earlier, no point nitpicking grammar on a tech forum, while contributing nothing on the discussion.

fail, I dont WANT xp running on a CF card, I dont NEED xp running a CF card, most CF cards are slower than typical harddrives, and hell of a lot more expensive. why not just buy an SSD? i have my 7 running on a vertex 3 that boots to desktop in 5 seconds, choke on this.
and xp does not work better than 7.

[citation][nom]amdfangirl[/nom]Please grammar already.[/citation]

I think I love you xD

Look people, the guys saying about wasting resources etc - this little app is only counting down to a date.. This must have taken one developer a whole 5 minutes in his lunch break to get running... Calm down everyone!! 😛

Xp may not be the most top end and may not be optimized for systems we have now ,but I've found it to be the most stable os around with little to no fault of being issues with the OS. Over all I hope the future generations are to be built with plenty of options with fewer requirements since and OS isn't ment to be as demanding as most lower end games. >.> even on Win7 I disable most graphic features and keep it bare is possible to reduce issues such as Aero being a problem... have had Aero to be an issue before with some older games that do not support it and will cause a display driver has stopped responding and has recovered message through out the time playing. TES 4: Oblivion was one of the ones I ment from this meaning it's not really that old of a game.

i like how my obvious grammar error became the 2nd hottest topic of this thread. people really have nothing better to do these days, are you all unemployed or something? yes i know its not grammatically correct, i did this on purpose. it just shows that i don't give a flying fk about what people have to say. I can type how ever the hell i want. moving on, nothing to see here, people.

considering that win7 runs on netbook and tablet devices, i hardly think that's considered "demanding", my problem with xp is its security vulnerabilities, i never had to reinstall a win7 while fixing other's computers, however, plenty of times when faced with xp, the OS is just in a complete god-awful mess - that the only way to fix it is to install a fresh copy.

While Win7 is a great OS, XP will be around for a while on older computers. I see no point in MS trying to take it away from us. By 2014 it'll get phased out by itself due to the lack of drivers and compatible software, but for now it's very irritating seeing MS attempting to convince us what's best for us. Don't see a point of upgrading from XP to 7 on my Eee PC, for example - XP handles everything just fine. While on my desktop, XP has no chance - I need DX11, I need newest drivers... In the end, people should be free to choose. For all of you XP fans out there - turn off Automatic Updates. You never know what crap MS will load onto your machine - I can totally see them loading a death timer on your OS, and then claiming that, by EULA, they have the right to terminate the contract at any time (aka destroy your OS in order to make you shift to 7). A bit paranoid, perhaps, but who knows :)

I never caved to the Vista thing. (I do have it on my laptop, but that is just because that is what came with it.) I was a dyed in the wool Windows XP fan until I tried Win7. I have been using Win7 since the RC was released.

There are just so many things that Win7 does better:
The search function is awesome. Just type a few characters of WHATEVER you are looking for and you get good results to choose from.

Snipping tool is great. Pinning icons, folders, files and so forth on task bar works wonders. Snap works better than "Tile Windows Horizontally".

Want to minimize all windows except for one? Click on the window you want and shake it. All other windows will minimize.

There really is no comparison with installing a fresh OS. XP takes forever to make sure you have the right drivers (you had better make sure you have the correct drivers for your on-board LAN port, because you won't be able to download them from the internet because the port won't work until you install the drivers for it). Gadgets work great.

Hovering over an icon on your taskbar will expand the windows into (fully-animated) small previews of for that application. Hovering over the preview of those windows will give you a peek at the window without actually going to it. Built in Windows Media Center.

The only thing I don't like about Win7 (I just have to get used to it) is the "Libraries" feature. I like putting a file in a specific place and accessing it through that particular location. I know I can still do that, but I still am not a fan of the libraries.

XP is what works the best. Why not just base a new OS around XP?

I remember how well the Pentium M worked in the benchmarks compared to the Pentium 4, even though it was a laptop CPU. So Intel based their entire Core 2 Duo design off the Pentium M. Then when the Core 2 Duo it, it was the best thing ever.

Get a clue, M$!

Why use XP? Why not. Its stable, and does everything i need it too. Why *upgrade* to something that is slower and takes more memory to do the same thing?

Sure im missing DX10/11....but with the current state of the gaming industry thats no big loss. All we get is console ports these days with shitty xbox360 quality graphics.

If i were to *upgrde* my os it wouldnt be to win 7. Id drop MS and just run a linux hypervisor. Then run a windows virtual machine on top of that when i want to play games. Sure a small loss in performance, but who cares when all we get are crappy console ports, i have power to spare.

That's f*cking stupid.
I think XP had/is having a good run.
I am current running XP on my Pentium 4 3.0 GHz it runs great thanks to the 4GB of RAM I have installed. But the company I work for is moving on to Windows 7 and that means I'll be getting a new computer next year.

They wouldn't even have to do this propogranda if they actually did a good job on Vista... Maybe in the coming years they'll rewrite history to read XP then Windows 7, just totally forget Vista ever happened.

Really XP is faster/better at searches? Really?
I suppose it's pointless to argue. The rest of the world moving on, I run XP in a cute little window sometimes, for nastalgias sake.

[citation][nom]three0duster[/nom]F'n Stupid is what it is. [/citation]Not quite so stupid as you think.
There are lots of IT departments out there with XP PCs and laptops in their organizations.

Since the planning and budgeting for IT upgrade projects seem to take ages it's not a bad idea for the IT guys (probably running on Win7) to slip a little reminder into the execs and top managers systems (also probably running on Win7) that the XP machines won't be around forever.

Why would someone want to install a pointless gadget like this in the first place?
Some people will use xp until the "wheels fall off" their computers and have to buy a new one that won't support it because, they own it already and spending a few hundred on a new os that won't give them anything more than the os they have is a waste of money that can be use for more important things.

Good point had not considered that.

[citation][nom]NuclearShadow[/nom]There is a good reasons why so many use XP even after all these years. Can anyone here argue a valid point on why a casual or non-gamer who doesn't use any hardware intense programs needs to upgrade from a very stable OS that works for them? Marry me?[/citation]

im a gamer and i dont give two @!#%s about dx 10, and dx 11. i use xp, i have a hd 5770 and dont feel the need to play at dx10 or 11 when the difference is marginal at best right now.

i prefer xp gui to vista and 7. Microsoft decided to not make it the way i like it. well they lose one person who has a 1000$ yearly software budget (i mean software as in applications, not games)

[citation][nom]AEternal1[/nom]Its funny to watch all the griping and moaning from BOTH sides of thsi argument, because they are ALL MOOT. .......WINDOWS 7 HAS AN XP MODE AVAILABLE......bunch of techs on a tech forum my a$$[/citation]
Load of rot. It is simply a virtual machine running Windoze XP. And it's only for Professional or Ultimate, anyway. You have to download it.

The only purpose of the operating system is to run applications. In that respect there is no difference between XP and Windows 7. Why should a person pay $99 for a pointless upgrade?

your not that much of a gamer.. 😗
