Windows XP desktop icons not appear after XP start..

when I was reinstalling window XP it install . but when I was scanning c drive virus found suddenly laptop shutdown
,when I start my laptop wndows xp screen appear ,wallpaper also appear ,a message is appear (written terminate this application press ok,I pressed but my XP icon not appear.what to do.
help me please .

Did you format the drive during install process ?
