Windows XP desktop wired internet connection keeps disconnecting

I have an old Windows XP desktop. I connect through my cable company to the internet. My husband runs his desktop through a wireless connection. His connection is stable but mine (ethernet connected) keeps disconnecting after 5-10 minutes. Is there any way to fix this?

You should replace the Ethernet cable, this happened to me. The cables inside were all jumbled up and one was completely disconnected.

Agree that cable should be checked but you should also try a different port on the modem/router, there are usually a few to choose from, just don't pick the odd one out which says "WAN". I'd try that first, cable second, and new network card in the PC last, and also be sure to reboot the router which is just a good general advice for any connectivity issues.
