Hi, I've got a old HP laptop. It runs only on windows xp (too slow for windows 7 or any better os). But it doesn't have any drivers. Wifi and sound doesn't work - my main needs. Every driver I have found doesn't work. If you could help me with this problem I would really apreciate that. Thanks!

Solution
Short answer no. Once the company (HP) stop supporting hardware, usually when the Operating System (XP) stops being supported all the resources (drivers) are normally eliminated. There hasn't been support for XP for a very long time, and while you can try Windows 10 on it, your only bet for that laptop would be a Linux Distro install, like Ubuntu. But really any of this is a total waste of time, as the hardware will just stop working due to the lengthy time it has been used (hardware for computers are only usable for 5 years before they 'normally' just die from use).

It is easier and much cheaper in the end to replace systems like this, since at Walmart is a laptop $199, warrantied from any defects for up to a year, currently...

Well you said you run XP because windows 7 it too slow did you actually try to install windows 7 and found it to be too slow ? The reason why I ask you may be able to just spend about $40 (if your in the US) and pick up a 120 SD drive and swap out your current drive which should make it feel much more speedy. I wouldn't be surprised if your older laptop has a 4200/4800 rpm drive. Other than that as stated you can pick up a usable laptop for around $200 that much better than what you running right now.

The perceived slowness on this laptop with newer OS's is most likely due to lack of RAM. Windows XP was happy to run on 512MB or lower. I've done WinXP Pro installs with as little as 32MB of SDRAM. Since the Vista era, Windows OS has been requiring around 1GB of system RAM to "run".

UHM NO on the SSD, he said XP era, that is IDE connections not SATA. There is no way for it to connect, and even if it did, XP is limited that it can't address such large size SSD (remember they were just in the MegaBytes range of drives way back then, and Floppy Disks).

Yes XP came along while IDE was in use but IDE drives were well into the Gigabyte range. 20 and 40GB drives were ubiquitous when XP came out.

Well the SSD suggestion was assuming he could upgrade to windows 7 and can find the drivers that's why I asked if he actually installed windows 7 but found it too slow. Though as skit75 said the memory would also play into windows 7 being slow which could have been the issue. There also IDE to sata adapters that can be installed in laptops. I actually have found that was standard use on a lot of older laptops (at least the one made by HP and dell business class). Since it seem he doesn't want to spend any money, otherwise he would just have already gone out and bought a new laptop a long time ago.

Thanks guys for your help! Actually we just bought new laptop for about 250 euros. Too much problems with old one. It barely ran on windows xp and drivers was too hard to find.
