Hi there,

Recently what has been happeing is that Windows XP along with the enitre
laptop just crash ...completely shutdown(screen suddenly goes blank) and I
have to start it again. No error messages appear before or after this
happens. I have defragmented my computer and use spyware/adware removal
programs. All this is but to no avail.

Please Help

Sounds allot like the computer is overheating. Your description fits that
scenario exactly.

Are you sure that will work, because I have never used that function before.
A little more detail : the crashing gets more frequent when I use memory
intensive programs, the crash is more quicker when I restart after a crash
and start using the pc heavily. Are you sure there isnt something more
complicated here.

Are you sure that overheating could be a cause. I have been using this
computer slightly more than an year now. I have used it in the MiddleEast and
it has never done this. I am currently in the U.K. Anyways, what could be a
quick fix solution and should I still go for a system restore as tomeee
suggested?

Thanks

A fan could have failed, or a component is now overheating when it was not
doing so before. A restore might help, and is worth a try. But the
symptoms you gave are classic symptoms of overheating.

Another thing that I have noticed is that, inspecting the task manager shows
me that a certain "cidaemon.exe" is utilising 100% of the CPU. I believe it
is some indexing file, which when closed turns back on again. Any ideas.
