I’m doing a xp build but the smallest sata drive I have is a 260 I was reading 128 is the max without any service packs. Can you do a partition or will that not work

you can install on something bigger just fine, but youll need to install service packs and then use a disk utility such as AOMEI Standard to 'strech' the partition to fit the drive : https://www.disk-partition.com/free-partition-manager.html
Need to be a little clearer here. Are you talking about Windows XP? And are the drives you are talking about GB or MB? Windows XP supports drives up to 2TB (I think...it's been a long time).
OK, I have to ask: Why are you doing an XP build (and why doesn't it involve SO1)? Go full retro and get DOS 3.1!! (although I always had a strange attachment to Windows for Workgroups...)
