what is the best way to get windows XP ISO file onto a USB?

To be bootable? Various utilities exist to mount an ISO.... I've used Rufus in the past.

I've used Rufus as well and Yumi.... I prefer Yumi as it allows several ISO's to be placed on a flash drive and creates a boot menu allowing you to boot your choice.

Yumi is also simpler and faster to complete the task.

I prefer Rufus. It's fast and has an option to add fixes for old bioses, plus after the job done u can add files and folder to the same flash such as softwares and drivers

I don't remember seeing those options with my version of Rufus (V.2.18)

That's not an option within Rufus, but there's nothing stopping you adding files/folders etc once Rufus is done creating it's bootable ISO.

Rufus has never worked to me.
