Hello ,
So I just clean installed Windows XP (original copy), on a notebook. Everything went fine, the OS worked smooth, drivers etc. So I decided to install an AV, and picked Avira,(worst decision ever).
It didn't even finish the install when the avgurad.exe FC came up, and after that a lot of FC's.
I rebooted the PC,(took a long time to shut down and boot into windows... a lot longer than before), and suddenly my taskbar was missing and windows theme went to classic.
Ok, so I reinstalled the Windows XP, this time used a Black Edition copy, did the same thing, everything was working even better. I said, well, maybe Avira will work this time... (nope!). Same thing, same problems. It looks like Avira is a XP killer for me.
Tried 2 XP versions and both got destroied. Downloaded the AV from filehippo and ninite. Any idea why?
Thanks!

Modern AV software is a resource hog. You don't have enough system resources to run it and everything else that is running. The reason your Windows theme gets set to Classic is because it doesn't have enough resources to run the XP theme. You need more memory, a better CPU, less stuff running in the background, or a combination of all of those things.

Or, just run without and AV. They really don't do much good. If you go to the wrong place or click on the wrong thing, you will get infected anyway. A modern browser like Chrome, until it quits working on XP, with some some script and ad blocking plugins will protect you as well as an AV.
