Windows XP Mouse not working

Mouse Lights Up and works but stops when windows starts up on xp , but keyboard keeps working.

Are USB drivers properly installed? (do other things work on the USB ports In the OS)
Is that a dead port?
Is that a Dead Mouse?
Is this a fancy mouse that might require it's own driver?
