Windows xp not recognizing games

Hello,
So, I just bought Sims 3 Pets. I stuck it in the driver, and nothing. The light blinks a few times, it makes a noise, and then nothing. So I checked under My Computer and it doesn't say that anything is in any of the drivers. Is there a quick fix to this?

Any error in device manager (Other devices - Yellow ! or ? mark) ?
Drive show in disk management ?

It's not the game, the game works perfectly fine on my grandmother's laptop but she doesn't like me using it. No error pops up, it's like the driver isn't even there. It doesn't read anything and the other drives (for like camera memory cards and stuff) don't work either. Whenever I try to get picture off the memory card and click on the driver it's in, it freezes until I take it out.
