I'm thinking about building a PC as i was looking a a IDE hard drive with windows xp so i was thinking i can skip the installation or do i have reinstall windows xp back on to the computer.
i am thinking about installing 8GB of ram on the PC for speed.(PassNote i am installing windows 7 after this)

System Spec

Intel Pentium D 945 (Thinking about Intel Core 2 Quad for more experience with my PC)

1GB of Ram (installing 8GB soon)

Genuine Intel Gateway LGA775 DDR2 Desktop Motherboard D36265-505

80 GB IDE hard drive

//this is later on when im using it//

100 GB IDE hard drive

or/and

120 or 250 SATA

A new motherboard with AM2 or AM3

Is it overkill for 2000,XP,Vista,7,81,10

You need to reinstall XP when you change the motherboard. Unless that is the same motherboard it was used with. It won't be ready for another one.

Is there some reason for building a PC this old? You can get a used Dell or HP 1st or 2nd Generation Core i5 desktop with 8GB RAM ready to go for about $100.
