Hello experts,

I have this old PC running Windows XP Professional Version 2002. The hard drive throwing error 'A disk read error occurred', so i insert Windows XP installation CD to fix using Recovery Console, check disk command, ran check disk 3-4 times because it stuck overnight. So now i want to run bootrec command but it give me black blank screen after "Setup is inspecting your Hardware configuration". Remove and put the RAM back still not working, i can hear the CD spinning. Can you guys help me out with this problem?

unfortunately bubblehead is right. you could try to do a disk scan with repair, to get it running again, but your solution is get new drive, and get your data off that old drive pronto

probably easiest to get new drive, make it master drive, the old drive , slave, install OS on new drive then access old drive to draw data (document files pictures etc.) back to new drives after install is done.

The drive is failing and is no longer useable. This is what your backups (you DO make backups, right?) are for. Same goes for any "very important" software. Always have the installation media at the ready.

The truth is i'm not an it guy but i have knowledge to fix some regular broken pc, so i got this pc from my friend to fix it. Asked him the installation media and he not having it. So no backup and no installation media. Maybe i'll just try googling the software, if i'm lucky i'll find it. Thank you guys.
