Windows XP Rights

I added a computer to our domain, created a new user account gave it administrative rights locally. Windows tells me that it doesn't have administrative rights when I try to install programs. It is windows XP Pro SP3. Any ideas as to why it would not have admin rights and still be a a part of the Administrators groups?

Right click on My Computer-->manage-->Local Users and Groups-->Groups-->double click on the administrators group-->member of tab-->verify that the user is correctly listed there.

Are there any group policies that would override the local settings?

The DNS wasn't configured correctly. Fixed that and it was all good. afford10 for replying anyway
