Windows xp x32-> windows 8 x64 ?

Hello smart people!


So, I found a license of windows xp and I want to upgrade it to windows 8 PRO for 39.99$ as It is available at microsoft website. And the only problem what I see here is bits of OS. Windows XP OS ussually have 32-bits but I want to have 64-bit Windows 8. because as I read in website, I need to buy windows 8 disc which costs much more than 39.99$.


And my question is Am I able to upgrade somehow windows x32 to windows 8 PRO x64 for 39.99$ legally ?

you cannot upgrade 32bit to 64bit only 32 to 32 64 to 64

- you create an USB bootable media with the 64 bits windows 8 upgrade
- you apply it to the 32 bits XP

But you will have to run a complete install - no apps nor data will be migrated.

Hmmm, understood. So, If I find windows 8 x64.iso file in internet, and install It with my key after upgrade, there won't be problems, what do you think?

Microsoft will give you access to the .iso while you buy the upgrade license.
After the download and creating the usb, it'll be a clean install (not keeping apps, nor data).

Ok, that's good, I don't need to keep data, but what about BITS of system! Will installation give me only one option of bits(In my situation 32-bits )? If no, than I could download somewhere windows 8. Only, will my license key fit to windows x64?

you will not have any option. If you run the upgrade from a 32 bits OS you'll get a 32 bits windows 8. If you run the upgrade from a 64 bits OS you'll get a 64 bits windows 8. In your case, you have to buy the license from a 64 bits OS to get the 64 bits windows 8 iso. You'll create the bootable usb on the 64 bits OS. And you'll boot the USB from the 32 bits XP you want to upgrade to windows 8.

As outdated as the question may seem, before you make a move on 64-bit, make sure your processor supports it and that you have at least 4GB of ram, otherwise you will NOT be doing yourself any favours.

Not really. A 64 bit installer will refuse to proceed on a system that doesn't support it, so it can't do any damage. Less than 4GB of memory isn't going to hurt 64 bit any more than it would 32 bit, either.

You just won't see any immediate benefit from being on a 64 bit OS without more than 4GB of memory.

Ok, understood situation. So, the cheapest way to get windows 8 x64 for me is to spend 69$, because windows XP Home Edt doesn't run in 64-bits

My processor i5-3570K 4.5 MHz and 8GB 1600MHz memory really would work with 64-bits as It must, so... Thank you for advice...
