I just received an ASUS motherboard with an AMD Phenom II X4 processor, and 2x4 GB DDR3, and I have tried windows 10 pro 64-bit, but sadly I cannot activate it, and it will expire soon. (And I am also very dissatisfied with it, just like with Windows 7 or 8). And I read that there is a version of the XP called x64 which recognizes more than 4 GB of RAM, so I obtained it and after I installed it, I was happy to see that it recognizes all the RAM and the 4 cores of the CPU, have a look here:

But now the issues are these: I'm having a problem with the video driver. I have downloaded Catalyst 14-4-xp32-64-dd-ccc-pack2 - which is said to be intended for 64-bit as well, and I have installed it, but Device Manager shows me something weird, it says the device cannot start. Look:

What does it mean it cannot start? I have a VTX Radeon HD 7750 and it worked great before, on XP 32-bit and on win10 pro 64-bit too! Why does it say it cannot start even after I installed the Catalyst? And now I have downloaded and installed Catalyst 13-9_xp64_dd_ccc_whql - which I believe is the appropriate driver for x64 version of Windows XP, I installed it in both Program Files and in Program Files (x86), but after the install, the display driver's status was "Fail". OK, I restarted the PC and tried to install it manually from Device Manager, and it showed clearly that it copied the files in C:\Windows... something, but after it did that, look what it showed me:

You will get nothing until the SB drivers are installed. There is a problem with allowing AMD to install those drivers, they leave out the SM Bus driver even though it is there in the collection of drivers & files you downloaded.

You must install the SM Bus driver yourself. Download the driver suggested by Emerald (http://www2.ati.com/drivers/13-4_xp32-64_sb.exe), run the file to make it get extracted, when it launches after it self-extracts, click no to having it install everything if you have already installed this driver set automatically. If you have not allowed it to install, click yes and get those divers in. Then....

Do the standard thing, right-click the SM bus device and choose to install the driver from a specific...
I already tried them, and others, and I kept getting the results that I already mentioned. The only video driver which worked so far was the AMD_VGADriver_XP32_64_VER9_00

although it doesn't provide a great framerate in games, and now I'm striving real hard with the drivers for the soundcard. I installed this driver from here:

http://ccm.net/download/download-24236-cmi8738-driver-for-2000-xp

and during installation it said again the same thing: Installation failed. Please disconnect the C-Media PCI Audio Device, restart your computer, and try again.

Why does it say that? I entered in BIOS and disabled the onboard sound card from there. I mean, I think it was the sound card, it said HD Audio or something like that. Did I do the right thing? I must disable the onboard card in order for the separate one to work, right?

1. Win 10, if left Unactivated, does not "expire". So far, it will run unactivated forever.
I have a Win 10 Pro in a VM install to test exactly this. So far, just over 11 months of being unactivated. With no change since Day 1 of its install, Dec 8 2016.

2. Win XP x64 has serious driver and support issues. For hardware across the board.

After the SM Bus is installed a lot of things are going to start working including your sound if it doesn't already.

Solution
I apologize for not answering sooner. Here is what happened: today I reinstalled the XP x64 Edition and I was determined to install that SM Bus driver like tigsounds described, and the strangest thing happened - after started installing the 14-4-xp32-64-dd-ccc-pack3, it seemed to me that the installation took longer than usual, and after that it required the restart, and after the reboot everything was in order: the Radeon drivers worked perfectly, there was no more issue with the SM Bus driver, and the sound card driver for the x64 edition of my CMI8738 also worked.

I don't know how it happened, but I'm very glad everything is in order now. I don't know if it has something to do with changing my video card (I recently bought a Sapphire HD 7790) since I used the exact same driver, but now it's all OK.

Thank you everyone for your advice!
