I created child accounts for my children. I then went to their email account and open the email. I click on the 'accept the invite' link and it takes me to a page where I have a choice to 'Join the family as a child'. I click on the button to 'Sign In and Join' which takes me to a window with Microsoft written on top, my child's email address underneath and then a request for a password. We have not yet set up a Microsoft password to log in, we are only first accepting the invite, so how do I actually join? The gmail password we have does not work, I tried resetting the password but it says the password has been used before. I tried using a different gmail account and it says 'looks like this isn't a microsoft account' . Since I can't get my 2003 computer back, I hope someone here can help me figure out how to set up the child accounts on my Windows10pro Dell PC

If you need help with the password we can't help with that. We can tell you what types of accounts you need or how to setup parental controls. But nothing to fix passwords or password issues.

I'll address parental controls.

Your admin account on the PC has to be connected to a Microsoft account. If somehow you created your Microsoft account as a child account. You'll need to either figure out which account is the parent account and gain access, create a new account or contact Microsoft.

Once you have an admin account on your computer setup and linked to an Adult (standard) Microsoft account. You can then add child accounts to your PC. You can then either use their e-mail address or create a new one for them. If their e-mail is already linked to a Microsoft account. It'll be easier to just create a new address for them and deactivate their old address than trying to wrangle with MS customer service reps.

Personally, I'd use local accounts so you can avoid all the MS headaches. Just make sure they are standard not admin accounts. The default setup type is standard. Then use parental control software like Norton Family or Qustodio. Norton family gives you a more brief overview of what activities they are doing online and set restrictions without overly detailed specifics to maintain some semblance of privacy. Qustodio is a much more draconian parental control software. For totalitarian parents with Orwellian levels of monitoring. Whose children hate them all their lives, grow up to do drugs and spit on their parents graves.

By local account, do you mean an account on my PC without needing an email address? I wish I new how to do that!!

I like the idea of total control, I give my kids plenty of reason to hate me, what's one more? I mean, I make them brush their teeth and do home\work, can't be worse than that. My 8 year old really does not need full YouTube access!

BTW the issue with the password is that they were never set up to begin with.

Thanks for your response.

Thank You VERY much
