Hello friendly people,

I have used Windows 7 with on my SSD and old pc Build. Sadly my old pc stopped working so I tried to put my ssd into another pc and I cant boot up because of Blue screen of death (bsod)

Everytime when the windows dots start to come together on bootup it freezes and shows me the following BSOD:

okay I cant figure out how to add a picture to my post, but the code on the bsod is as follows:

Technical Information:

STOP: 0x0000007B (0xFFFF880009A97E8, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, and then a long code with only 0's

I guess the problem has to do with the settings on that drive being so different and for a different rig.
How can I use that SSD without losing the Data/files on it?

Extra Info: I have another SSD that has Windows 10 on it, it worked fine on my old pc and it does also work on the new one.

If anyone could guide me here I would greatly appreciate it, thanks!

You probably need to do a fresh install of windows. (you will loose all data on the drive so back up anything you can't replace)

Sata controller mode settings do not match between old and new system.
Then you get BSOD error 0x0000007B.
Possible sata controller modes: AHCI, RAID, IDE.

On new system you have to set sata controller mode to same value, it was on old system.

Anyway - if you change motherboard it's always recommended to reinstall windows.
If you try to avoid this, you get several issues:
boot mode compatibility - system doesn't boot,
driver incompatibilities - bsods, crashes, bad performance,
windows activation issues - can not activate windows.

Windows 10 is more forgiving when moving between computers, all though its not recommended. Windows 7 wants to be installed on one computer and doesnt like to move.

If you have stuff on the SSD you want to keep, i would recommend installing another drive on the new computer and install windows on it......make sure its the only drive installed at the time of instillation. Once you have your new copy of windows installed, plug the old SSD in as a secondary drive and you will be able to pull you needed data off of it.

thx everyone for all the answers!!! I will now try every single one and report back

If I switch the Sata Controller Mode I wont lose the Data that is on the SSD right?
( sorry really newbie here)

I have RAID and AHCI available to me

RAID was the default settings

after setting it to AHCI the boosts just go into a loop and end at the windows loading screen where the dots try to form the windows symbol. Though the crash now happens at a slightly but noticeable later point in the windows forming process

that is not an option, I cant lose the Data on the Disc :/
A reinstall IS an option. Its just an option you do not want to take, because you failed to do any preparation for this major configuration change.

What to do now?

Install an OS on some other drive.
Then, connect this one as a secondary drive. Recover the desired personal data (not applications).

There is no magic to make that Win 7 drive bot up in different hardware.

thank you, I did use 2 SSDs and bootet from the one with windows 10 installed. I can now backup Data from the one with windows 7!

Is there a way to upgrade to windows 10 for free as there was back then?
