Hi,

I recently bought a 512mb stick of RAM for my Thinkpad T30 notebook. When I first installed it, I would right click on my computer and get the correct reading of 768mb RAM installed.

Took out the old 256mb stick a couple of times and used it temporarily on my work T42 notebook, when using multiple work apps which were quite heavy on memory.

Last time I put back the 256mb stick, when right clicking on My computer, I only see the 512 stick. when looking on system info, I see the whole 768mb. Bios also sees the 768mb.

Tried removing the 512 stick, notebook boots fine and reports the 256m correctly. reinserting 512, I get just the 512mb reported. Tried swapping slots, but still no luck.

I would try CPUZ, if CPUZ reports 768, I would think it is just a little bug in windows, or a registry entry that didn't update.

Also task manager(ctrl+alt+del) in performance tab and under physical memory.

If CPUZ and task manager report it right, no worries.

What video card does it have. Is it by chance using 256 MB memory?? If so then your video card has that much physical ram dedicated to it. Hence when you look in my comp ot only show 512. My wifes laptop does that same thing. It is supposed to have 512 but when I looked I saw only 256 and I thought we got ripped off. Then I figured it out.

Tnx for the replies. Just checked under task Manager, and only 512 is reported under physical memory !!!
