Hello. Last Friday I came home to see that my computer had gotten the code for startup corrupted and had entered an infinite loop of "Diagnosing your PC," "Preparing Automatic Repairs," and restarting and repeating. I know several people that got the exact same problem at the exact same time as I did so I believe it was because of a bad automatic update from Windows 10. Eventually I ended up making it into my BIOS so I changed my startup to the disk drive and completely wiped my computer so I could reinstall Windows 10. After I got it reinstalled, I put in the disk that came with my MSI motherboard for all of the drivers for it. I'm not completely sure whats all missing still for drivers, but the one I noticed right away was my ethernet driver. I'm not sure why this would be missing because when I first build this computer and ran the disks, everything worked perfectly fine. Before this happened to my computer, I had no problems with any of the drivers either. I've been trying for the last few days to figure out why there is no ethernet driver and how to get it, but to no avail. I was wondering if anyone on here would be able to help me out so I actually have my computer again.

SPECS:
OS: For some reason the interface for MSI Driver and Software setup says Windows 8.1 even though my disk is for windows 10. Would this have anything to do with the fact that I got a one time use disk with the key integrated into the disk? It looks like it is still Windows 10 though.
Motherboard model: Z97 Gaming 5
Motherboard BIOS version: V1.12
Graphics card model: NVIDIA GefForce GTX 970
Hard Drive: 1TB
SSD: 250GB

Windows 10 should have had drivers that would run the Ethernet card - not the right drivers but good enough to run it.

You should have gone to MSI site for your motherboard and downloaded drivers from here as at least they are possibly newer than ones on DVD that came with motherboard. Right now you need to download the latest KIller Ethernet drivers and possibly LIve Update 6 from the utility page. If you can installer killer, then run the other and it will update all the other drivers

Is it possible that the reason that I have absolutely nothing for ethernet drivers because of the Windows 10 disk I have? My computer is a custom built one by me with help from some friends. The friend that helped me told me to get this type of copy of Windows 10. It's like the "manufacturer's copy" or something like that. It is meant for a one time use and there is no key given because its integrated into the disk so you just have to put it in and go. My friend told me to get that copy because it's a cheaper than a regular copy of the OS and we figured I wouldn't ever need to use it again. Is the possible reason I don't have the basic ethernet drivers because this copy of my OS isn't meant to be used again?

On another PC, download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB/DVD

Since win 10 already been on PC, you can use any installer. That will get you latest version of win 10

You might be best reinstalling win 10 using that USB/DVD, I cannot think of another way to ensure you get the missing drivers.

When you get to screen asking for a licence key, click "I don't have one" and windows should auto activate on install

So basically, since it was already used you think it didn't install properly or maybe not completely and that's why the drivers aren't there? So then by using the media creation tool to install win 10, it should fix the problem?

Solution

I finally got it to work. I had previously downloaded the drivers from Killer Network onto a flash drive and transferred it to my PC. I tried to go into the folder and run something from it like you would when you download it and then just click "run" on your browser download but none of the files would do anything so I just deleted it from the computer again. Just now I went into device manager and selected update driver and searched for the folder and used it and it downloaded the drivers right away. That was what I did wrong earlier when trying to download them from the flash drive. Thank you very much for your assistance. You are a life saver and I don't think I would have realized what I had done wrong without your help so I really appreciate you taking time of your day to help me out with this!
