My dad gave me a laptop that one of his work friends gave away. It seems to be a pretty decent laptop, however I cant get into it. It has ubuntu installed on it and i dont know the users password.

Honestly i'm not a fan of ubuntu and i dont care about getting into the files. Is there any way i could completely wipe the computer from the start menu and install a fresh copy of windows? Once again, I cant log in.

Solution
You need to have a windows setup disc/license to install windows. During the windows setup, it gives you the option to format or delete the volume. Format it and proceed to install Windows first onto the drive through the custom installation option

(This is another option to remove Ubuntu)
Log into windows and open disk management.
Locate the disk and the partition with Ubuntu on it, and format that Ubuntu partition

Note that this will delete everything, including Ubuntu

Then you can just run windows normally
