For about a month now randomly my internet connection has been dropping until a modem reboot only while gaming. I can play any game maybe 5-10 minutes then all of a sudden my WAN Connection will disconnect, my WAN link is still perfectly fine. So far I have replaced everything internet wiring related except my 40ft. ethernet i use to hardwire my PC to my modem (new lines outside, new modem.)

Regarding the incoming line from your ISP (Frontier): does the connection come in and go to a small device with that wire as the input and two outgoing wires?

One of the two outgoing wires goes to the telephone and the second wire goes to the modem - correct?

If so, that little device is a splitter (sometimes called a filter). Have you replaced it?

How do you know it is the mobo disconnecting from wired, and not the ADSL disconnecting from the outside world? A lost connection could be anywhere in the chain of route hops. Having to reboot the modem tends to imply it isn't the mobo which is disconnecting...it looks more like the ADSL lost the outside world.

It runs the length of my home into my wall. into box that says Line 1 and Line 2, and the modem connection is plugged into line 2. I have no actual home phone I should have specified they are 2 smartphones, and a tablet.

I'ved talked to 5 tech support people, and 2 in home repair techs, and everything they have done shows it working perfectly, which it does except when I login to any online game. More than acceptable SNR, line attenuation is fine, etc. I can watch streams and download 24/7 and as far as I've seen I've had no hicups or anything. I load up say Overwatch? My light for the internet connection goes red (from blue) on the modem a few minutes in and never comes back without a reboot. I find it hard to believe its a routing issue when everything works flawlessly except gaming.

I was having this problem with my previous modem as well, this is what brought up the whole issue to begin with, I had use a F2250 Actiontec modem for 2 years without a hitch, its just gotten worse with the Arris.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from eternalvale1 : "Tech friend said networking may be caused by my old Mobo."

In late august I began having connection issues when I would do packet heavy things like gaming, essentially my modem's internet light would go from blue to red meaning I was disconnected from the internet, but not the lines.

He said because I have a pretty old motherboard there could be a grounding issue or something similar causing problems with the on-board network connector causing refeed or something to that effect. I personally have no clue, I'm just following every lead I can.

Question from eternalvale1 : "Odd problem, even my ISP can't seem to fix."

Reading back:

"It runs the length of my home into my wall. into box that says Line 1 and Line 2, and the modem connection is plugged into line 2. I have no actual home phone I should have specified they are 2 smartphones, and a tablet.

And:

"So far I have replaced everything internet wiring related except my 40ft. ethernet i use to hardwire my PC to my modem "

Try another known working Cat 5e Ethernet cable.

The existing cable may be at fault.

Any signs the modem momentarily loses power? I.e. check the electrical outlet serving the modem.

I have not noticed any problems with the power of it, its in another room so I can't keep an eye on it really. I can buy a new cat5e but its gonna be a while until I can buy it. A friend said possibly my mobo may be causing the issue since its so old (its roughly 7-9 years old) and its causing some kind of grounding or voltage issue, which I don't think I can even personally check.

This may or may not make sense, but I had a power outage here last night for a couple hours. Once the power came back my connection became more stable and I no longer suffer from disconnects, even with the same hardware.

Power off, power on can fix a number of issues.

Some glitch gets taken out, some cache gets cleared, some default setting gets restored...

Such things can and do happen.

Glad the connection is stable. Just keep an eye on things. If the problem returns you may spot what happened or occurred to bring the problem back.
