Hi all.
I bought and installed a new gpu about 3 weeks ago (2070 super -> RX 7800 XT) and since then my internet is constantly disconnecting. It cuts out for 30 seconds to a minute and then comes back. I have a wired connection ethernet cat7 cable (my PC has no wifi).

Things I have tried:
  • Unplugging and plugging in ethernet cord
  • Brought a new ethernet cord
  • Looking at ipconfig
  • Turning off ipv6
  • Static ip address and automatic ip address
  • Restarting PC
  • Resintalling network drivers
  • Rolling back network drivers
  • Updating to latest network drivers
  • Flushing DNS
  • Turning off power management save power mode on ethernet settings
Notes:
  • BIOS is updated
  • I used DDU to uninstall and reinstall drivers when I changed gpus
  • There is no red x or anything on the ethernet cable in the settings
  • When the drop out happens, "ipconfig" says "media disconnected" for the ethernet cable
Relevant specs:
  • RX 7800 XT GPU
  • Gigebyte X570 UD Motherboard
  • Cat 7 ethernet cable

what are full specs of the PC?
What Power supply do you have?

did you update chipset drivers? = https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/x570
(unrelated - did you turn on sam in bios)

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

It doesn’t delete anything, it just stops non Microsoft programs running with start. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

Over the years, I've had problems with built-in 1.0G and 2.5G Ethernet chipsets on motherboards. In some instances, the chipsets don't like the firmware in my old 10G Netgear Ethernet switch and I still get drop outs like the one you describe.

Sometimes updating the chipset driver fixes the problem. For your system, you could try downloading the drivers from the motherboard (Gigabyte) web site, or go direct the chipset manufacturer's web site (which I believe is Realtek).
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X570-UD-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver-lan
https://www.realtek.com/en/downloads

Back in 2022, I stopped trying to get the 2.5G Realtek chipset on my new Asus Prime X670-F to work and fitted an old dual port 1G Intel server card. It worked perfectly. Later, I swapped the Intel card for a 10G Asus XG-C100C. I disabled the on-board 2.5G chipset and haven't tried more recent drivers for 2.5G.

Try to identify the exact part number for the network chipset is fitted on your board, then search for people who've had trouble with the same chip.

If all else fails, try a plug in network card, provided you've got a free PCI-e slot. Chances are it will come with a Realtek or Intel chipset, but at $20 or less, it might fix the problem.

Full specs:

Gigabyte X570 UD motherboard
750W PSU
32gb RAM

I've just downloaded those chipset drivers now.
Will also try the clean boot and get back to you, thanks.

what make/model PSU?

I only ask as it could be a lack of power and it disconnects Ethernet randomly. If power is flaky, it can d/c USB devices as well. Next step would be turn GPU off, as its trying to ensure the CPU has power it needs.

750 should be enough for the GPU though.

I create a System Restore Point in Windows before updating any drivers. That way you can (usually) roll the system back if the new driver makes things worse
