Hi,

I've been having a problem with my desktop's internet speed for the past few weeks. I recently got a new internet subscription (high speed 50) and all the computer and tablets wired or wireless can get matching or similar speeds. For this desktop computer though, it only got about 14 down at max. I had a technician come in to take a look if its the wires that is causing the problems, but the wires are giving the speeds it is supposed to. Therefore, he suggested it is a hardware problem only my computer has. So, with that in mind, I switch my motherboard, and CPU in hopes of getting the normal internet speed. However, it turns out the internet speed actually got slower now its averaging at about 4-5 down. So, my mind is boggled right now as to how I can fix it. I phoned back to the internet service provider and it costs $120 to do a remote fix and I am not willing to spend that much money. So, if anybody could help me that would be super awesome. Right now at least, I am thinking it is a software problem. Tell me if there is anymore info you need.

Hey,

This is pretty strange...

Try and connect to the computer ONLY, disconnect all your other devices from the network and see if your speeds increase if not move down the chain...

What type of Ethernet cable are you using... Is it Cat5e? (most likely).

Try and reset the router (through the pin hole method with a paper clip) and see if the speed increases for your desktop.

Post back results here.

Many thanks,

Well the built-in NIC on your motherboard can handle 1000 Mbits, so its probably not that. Your CPU doesn't affect you internet speed so its not that either. Open the network and sharing center, where it says connections click ethernet, write down the speed given. You could have a really old ethernet cat3 cable, or maybe the cable you have is damaged. Have you tried using one of the cables you used with the other wired PCs?
