Wired Router, Download Speeds suffering big time.

So I have a wireless N router, an old D-Link on that is giving me problem. I was on the verge of simply buying a new router, but I decided to see if there was something I could do first. So, the problem is, both my roommate and my PC's are connected to the router through Ethernet Cables (Cat 6). Our normal download speeds would be around 110 - 120 Mbps (tested through Speedtest).

Recently, both of our speedtest results have shown our downloads fluctuating from 20 - 60 Mbps (ping and upload speeds are perfectly fine and dandy). We both are pretty savvy and tried our own trouble shooting (limited as it was). We tried:

1) Hard resetting both modem and router (didn't work)
2) Clearing logs on the router (didn't work)
3) Checking to make sure no one else was using our router (it was only us)

The weird thing is that this problem just sort of happened. One day it was perfectly fine. The next day it just decided to get wonky. Whenever one of us plugs directly into the modem itself, the download speed jumps back up. So we've pretty much decided it was the router. Any ideas that you guys might have?

PS - People told me that D-Link was a bad router company. I'm not too informed about which router brands are good vs bad.

Solution
Can you do a system restore to a time before the problem occurred. Maybe a windows update has screwed things up? Maybe try resetting your TCP stack first

We tried both actually. Same results (the speed being only 60 Mbps with the router). But it wasn't always like that. Before we would be able to run speed test on both our PC's at the same time and get 110 - 120 Mbps.

Abailey:

The only thing we tried was switching our Cat6 cables. But I would think it would be HIGHLY unlikely that both of our CAT6 cables decided to mess up at the same time. Also, the CAT6 cable seems to work fine when plugged directly into the modem itself.

Resetting my TCP worked. Thanks!
