wired router with cable modem question

big network noob here. we have an old D-Link WBR-2310 RangeBooster G Router hard wired to our equally old DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem. we have 2 PCs and a smart TV hard wired to the router. currently getting great speed (15 Mbs) with our standard internet service from Time Warner.

if we upgrade to a higher internet speed (30 Mbs) while upgrading our cable modem to a DOCSIS 3.0 model, will we need to upgrade the wired router? (i honestly don't know if DOCSIS versions matter to routers)

No. The modem just outputs a standard signal. If the current router is meeting your needs, leave it.
DOCSIS 2 or 3 is what talks to the ISP, not the router.
