I have been in touch with my service provider, the standard answer is what I get, they cannot guarantee gigabit service - that's fine, but what I am seeking is consistent, 700-ish mbps speeds. Netgear just cannot help, posted in their forum and so far, there is no reply to my post. So putting it out in the wild, for those that may know....

Unable to achieve over 300mbps hard-wired to the R6300v2. Direct connect to the Arris Surfboard (DOCSIS 3.1) modem is in excess of 900mbps (even got a screen shot of that one!).

Equipment being used:

-Arris Surfboard, DOCSIS 3.1
-Netgear R6300v2/AC1750
Latest firmware update, QoS disabled, <10 devices connected, cable/wifi
-Patch cable from modem to router is CAT7
-Cable from router to Mac Book Pro (MacOS High Sierra, Ver 10.13.2, v2015) is CAT6, 30'
Also have used Mac Book Pro (MacOS High Sierra, Ver 10.13.2 v2016) is CAT7, 1.5'
-Thunderbolt to ethernet adapter 10/100/1000 capable
Service provider is Grande Communications, Texas-based company.

Note: This is my second R6300v2, the first one was supposedly malfunctioning per Netgear telephone support - so I bought another one, and I have the same problem.

Confirmed with service provider that I actually am subscribing to the gigabit service (Netgear asked me that...) and yes, I am and the direct connect speeds are proving that. I have connected with both CAT7 and CAT6 cables directly to the Surfboard with great results. But when connected to the router, speed drops significantly, to below 300mbps.

I feel really dumb posting this... but I have been looking for an answer for a bit now, and this is still 'new' to folks or else they just don't care... but honestly, I must be overlooking something somewhere in the router settings that won't let me achieve over 300mbps.

Speed Tests:
Grande Speed test site
Speedtest.net
Fast.com
Googles Fiber Speed test

All have yielded consistent sub 300mbps speeds. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thank you

One of the common issues on high speed connections is the router cpu can not keep up. To get around this many router have some form of hardware assist that bypasses the cpu. It has a number of names some call it CTF and other call it nat acceleration.

So step 1 is to reset the router to factory and do a very minimal configuration. The hardware acceleration is normally on by default in most routers.

The large issue with using the hardware assist is it pretty much disables a lot of the fancy features...even some really simple ones like traffic utilization don't work because the traffic does not pass through the CPU.

That router has been tested by many sites and gets 800+mbps so it has to be a configuration issue unless you just happen to have a defective unit.

This is the second R6300v2 unit that I have owned - I just like the router - so I did the factory reset, and only changed the name/password and disabled the 2.4ghz network.

Wifi testing -- iPhone 7plus (for giggles.....)
Google fiber speed test - 26 download / 21 upload

minimal configuration literally...... I will try again, it is 1pm, don't think it's peak time yet. Will keep trying, but any other ideas - keep them coming, please.

Thank you!
