Wired Transfer Speed Slow: What steps do I take to fix?

Hello -

Never paid much attention to transfer speeds, but now it's becoming an issue.

I backup my CPU files to a NAS (Netgear ReadyNAS) which is loaded with two 1 TB Barracuda HDDs. Files transfer at 10mb-11mb per second.

I would just like to know what steps I should take to start pinpointing the problem (i.e. 1. check for gigabit ethernet on computer 2. check speed of switch/router, 3. etc).

You listed the steps. If it's not gigabit anywhere between them that's your problem. 10MB is 80Mb which is exactly what you should expect on a 100Mb network

Sorry for being a dumba**, but what do you mean when saying "10MB is 80MB". Is that a typo or actual computer math?
