I have an AC Router and have set the 5 and 2.4Ghz bands to work with AC, N etc. I have given the bands different names. My two desktops(AC) connect to 5Ghz and my laptop(N) connects to 2.4Ghz. I have set up a homegroup and the two desktops see it but the laptop doesn't. The laptop also doesn't see the 5Ghz network name. The desktops see both band names. How do I set up the router so that all three computers talk to each other and also use the highest available band? It's a D-Link DIR 860L.

Solution
By default, the router (its purpose) combines the different LAN connections and then routes them where the traffic should go... Internet or a different local device.

So, in Windows, make sure all the devices are part of the same workgroup (not 100% needed, does not hurt) and that you do NOT have WLAN isolation turned on in the router...

Reboot everything and check connectivity.

Ping the other devices from each other.
