I have a hardwired peer to peer network with an established work group run through a 16 port switch with a cable modem attached for web access. I want to add a four port wireless router to the configuration such that wireless computers can get web access and connect to the hardwired
network. I would appreciate input regarding the sequence / arrangement of the hardware and any recommendations for settings of the wireless router to achieve this connectivity.

In this case, you're looking for any router that can operate as a 'gateway' or 'access point'. Gateway is more of a home-use, so most wi-fi routers actually have a software setting to switch to gateway mode. Basically it disables NAT/DHCP/routing and just acts as a layer-2 pass-through.

So in short, get a wi-fi router that supports gateway mode, plug it in to the switch, and (assuming your cable modem is acting as DHCP server) everything will just work! It's that easy :)
