I have an MSI GS70 Stealth Pro (With the 860M not the 970) and everything was working fine up until recently.
I had shut down the machine for the night and packed it up to head to school in the morning and when I had turned on the machine I couldn't connect to the internet and no wireless networks were appearing in the WiFi menu. When checking the network adapter menu and the device manager I do not see my wireless adapter:

I am currently tethering from my Android via USB to gain network access, I've tried Intel's auto detection driver software to no avail, it only detected drivers for my graphics that were out of date and on the official MSI site for my machine (https://us.msi.com/Laptop/support/GS70-6QE-Stealth-Pro.html) the network drivers are missing and I get this error:

Does anyone else have anymore insight than I do?

Didn't end up working but I upgraded all the other drivers that were out of date and some package must have had the correct ones in it. Or it could have been from the restarting, I am not entirely sure but I have wireless connectivity now.
