Hi.

I usually leave my PC on overnight, and when I woke up this morning, I found my windows in a frozen state and after a restart, my wireless stopped picking any signals. Internet works with a network cable though. Other devices in the house can connect to the router fine.

0) Restarted router numerous times

1) I've tried uninstalling the wireless driver in the device manager, and letting the computer scan for hardware changes, but that doesn't reinstall the driver.

2) I then manually downloaded the wireless driver from ASUS but that hasn't fixed the problem.

3) I also used windows' troubleshoot feature but this is the result:

My Device Manager:

And Network Connections:

My Motherboard: ASUS z97 Deluxe, with bundled wireless antenna (all latest drivers)
Windows: 7 Ultimate SP1
Router: Provided by my ISP, 'Sky' in the UK.
Anti-virus: Avast free version.

Sorry about the giant post.

Solution
Hi there Hummus!

What I would try is to unplug the power cord connected to your desktop after shutting down properly, and press the power button 3 times, then plugging the power cord back in. If you have a laptop, take the power cord and battery out and do the same thing.

Let me know the result! :)

Thank you for the idea. It sort of worked...but.

My antenna can pick wireless networks now, from my router and neighbours'. But my wireless reception icon on the bottom right has a red cross on it, and when I click on it I get a list of available networks. My home network has a red cross next to it and says "The capability of your network adapter does not match the requirements of this network".

But I can somehow browse the internet wirelessly. It doesn't make sense...

Glad to hear that it kind of worked!

So now you can use the internet wirelessly but it's just the system tray icon bothering you?

If so, I would try restarting it, if you haven't already, and see if you have any Windows update or driver updates, you can also try troubleshooting again and see what it gives you.

Good luck!

Hi boryahjasper!

I have an internet connection now, but this problem still exists:

I've just done a windows update and restarted a couple of times (including removing the power cable), but the red x is there. I've tried troubleshooting but it can't find any problems.

Oh well. I'm happy that I'm online at least.
