Wireless adapter not under Network Adapters in Device Manager

My wireless icon is missing in my adapter settings under network connections. I checked in Network adapters in Device manager and I only have the local area connection one. I tried restoring my system to a date which my wireless icon was under network connections, but it didn't restore my wireless adapter. Any kind of help much appreciated.

Yes, I have a laptop. It's a HP Pavilion m6 Notebook. I'm confused with the term came loose.

Windows 7 Intel i5-3250M
 
with newer laptops they can have two on/off switches. one would be a funtion key (electronic) on off switch. some laptops on the bottom of the case can have a hard on/off switch. look at your case led see if the led light for the wifi card is on. if it off look at your laptop user guild for the wifi switch.
