Wireless adapter router connection

why wont my adapter (netgear) communicate with my router??? have gone through all the steps but it wil not connect me with te internet....am i missing something?

did you install the drivers for the netgear adaptor? did you physically connect an ethernet cable from the router to the netgear adaptor? or if it is wireless, make sure you have Service Pack 3 for windows XP and try connecting wirelessly. good luck.

thanks for the advice. i recently had my tower revamoed and am now using windows xp professinal. the router is approx 8 meters away and the connection is through a wireless adapter. still no joy but thankyou anyway

Did you use wep or wpa security,you need service pack 3 to use wpa.
