wireless connection only works on first website then can't connect to any other website

This is the strangest problem - wifi was working fine, after a recent Microsoft update it stopped working, sometimes when I open IE it brings up my starting webpage but I can't to any other page, I get "Page cannot be displayed error", I did find a posting here that recommended downloading and installing the wireless driver, I did that, immediately afterwards everything worked great, I thought it was fixed, then I turned off my laptop and came back later and opened IE thinking all was fixed, now I am back to the same behavior. These are some of the commands that I have tried but have not solved the problem:
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
I am writing this from another PC. Please elp. Without internet this PC is worthless to me.

Try a system restore, reverting back in time to before you installed that update.

If this doesn't work, check your proxy settings and clear them if you have any in your browser.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried a system restore but this machine (HP Envy 4 Laptop) was originally Window 7. I have upgraded online to Windows 8 and then 8.1. When I have attempted a system restore it asks for the install media, which I don't have. I have checked the proxy settings and I don't have any proxy settings selected in the browser. The weird thing is that sometimes I am able to open the default web page when I initially open the browser but I can't navigate to another page. I get the "Unable display this page" error.

Check this page out and select windows 8, it has many solutions you can try, hope it helps.
