Hi guys,
I bought a Toshiba Portege Z930 a few months ago, it came bundled with Windows 7 Professional edition but I've recently upgraded it to Windows 8 Pro. I did a custom install, not keeping the installed programs, just the files. However, since I upgraded,I am unable to turn on the wireless device for the laptop. There's a LED indicator near the touchpad that signifies if the wireless is turned on and it is always off. All of the FN shortcuts work perfectly EXCEPT for FN+F8 which is the wireless toggle. Among other things I've tried unsuccessfully are the following:
1. Resetting the computer, going to BIOS, resetting to defaults and restarting. Didn't work.
2. Rebooting in safe mode with networking. Didn't work, Wireless Devices still off.
3. Right clicking the network, going to network and sharing center, diagnosing the connection. It correctly diagnoses that the wireless device is turned off, however it does not offer a fix for it. It just tells me to turn it on via a physical button (none for this model) or via the FN keys (which don't work). Also, right clicking the wireless network in the N&S center will show that the wireless network is "Enabled" already. Which is a bit confusing 🙁
4. Going to Windows 8 Settings -> Wireless, the toggle for turning on wireless devices is greyed out, i can't even toggle it on or off.
I've read online that this may be because drivers aren't installed when upgrading, however how can I download / upgrade them if the laptop itself won't connect to the internet? And also what particular drivers are needed if ever? The keyboard or the Wireless Network Adapter? I'm not a very technical person so I can really only try the solutions which i can understand.
I appreciate any and all help in this regard. Thanks in advance
