I am trying to connect a wireless extender to my current system so that I can have a signal in my detached garage for my laptop out there.

My wireless router is an Asus RT-N66R.

A few months ago I purchased a Netgear WN3000RPv3 extender. It worked as advertised for just over a month then nothing. All of my devices (three laptops ((win7, win8, win10)), three tablets, and three cell phones) can see and connect to the extender, but none of them have any internet access when connected to it. In network connections it says "Connected, No Internet Access".

I have been through two RMA's with the same issue (can see it, but no internet). On the last RMA they sent me a WN3500RP. That one does the same thing.

At this point I don't really think there is an issue with the extender(s), but I am thinking something may have changed in my router somehow. I haven't connected to my router and changed anything though. Can someone please assist me in what to look for or change to get the extender to work.

All the devices can connect to the router and get internet? Have you done the setup with all the equipment in the same room? Does it work if you set it up as an access point with an ethernet connection to the router? If it has a bridge mode, connected by wifi to the router and ethernet to the computer, try that.

All of these will help determine where the problem is. Extenders are something of a pain to get working and keep working. The problem is compounded on Tom's by the non-use of extenders by many of the most active members in the WiFi forum.

Thank you for the reply.

Yes all of the devices can connect to the router and get to the internet. I have done the setup in the same room and in the room adjacent to it (open floor plan) with the same results. I have not tried to set it up as an access point so I will give that a shot. However, wouldn't that kind of defeat the purpose of the extender? If I have to have it connected via a lan cable I still wouldn't have signal to the garage. Or did I misinterpret that?

The AP mode is for testing purposes. To increase the confidence the problem is just the wifi connection with the router. Although it would undoubtedly perform better as an AP than as a repeater if you could get a cable to it.

How do you reach the repeater set up system?

One more thing. Are you 100% sure you entered the encryption password correctly? Capital letters and all? Typos are very easy in complex passwords. Try turning off the encryption on the router to see if you can make connection then. If so, carefully reenter the password into the repeater.

OK...So I hooked up a lan cable from the router to the extender. Then changed the wireless connection on my laptop to the extender. It connects and has internet. I am actually typing this with this setup. So it appears that the issue is between the extender and the router as I have suspected all along. Now I just need to figure out if there is a setting in my router that is blocking the extender from connecting to it wirelessly.

To get to the extender setup from an out of the box state you disconnect from the router wireless connection connection. There will be a netgear connection that you connect to. Then you open a browser and type in mywifiext.net (if it doesn't automatically pop up) and run through the settings. Or you can connect via the WPS buttons.

I actually thought at first that I may had been typing in the incorrect password so I intentionally put in a wrong password and it would tell me that it was not correct.
