Hello
I have recently bought a 50m cat 5e cable to power my new pc which also has wireless nuilt into the motherboard. Under the network and sharing centre in windows the cable speed is 100mbps while the wireless is 144.4mbps What is going on here and how can i make the cable faster.
Thanks

For some reason I was thinking that 50m was either the maximum distance or slightly above the maximum distance that cat5e could run gigabit speeds but I went googling and it seems there isn't any mention of it. My bad. So just make sure everything supports gigabit speeds between your components and you're good to go.

At 50m you are close to if not slightly exceeding the limit cat5e can transmit at gigabit speeds. For this to work you would need the port on your computer as well as the port on your router/switch to support a gigabit connection. Once that is accomplished then you can see gigabit speeds though I just want to note that being at 50m it would be best to run cat6 cable for optimized noise reduction so you don't have any issue with running at gigabit speeds. This is just something to note as you are right at the limit of cat5e's length for supporting gigabit data transfer.

Hello
Before i Bought the cable i had read on many websites and forums that cat5e were able to run at gigabit speeds up to 100 metres and that 50m was going to be no issue.
