Wireless internet has extremely different speeds every time I test it.

Yesterday I talked to people at Xfinity, my current provider, and they told me that if I do speedtest.net I should get over 100Mbps for download speed. It took me a few tries on my brother's computer to get the proper results. Over 125Mbps! Each time I do speedtest on our computers, we get from as low as 40 to as high as 100. Sometimes, on my PC, it even goes down to less than 1Mbps.

I installed all of the latest drivers for my NIC, same with my brother. My PC is on the same floor as the wireless router, just in the next room actually. My brother's PC is above the router.

Is there any reason our speedtest results are so polar opposite and random?

Yes, WIFI. The only repeatable way to test internet speed is with a wired connection.

Speed Tests can also be affected by the amount of usage in your area. They will always fluctuate because they have MANY variables.
