I was using wifi through my motherboard. About 1 month ago I started to get serious issues with my Internet lagging or disconnecting constantly. I got a TP-link TX20U Plus USB WiFi Adapter. Everything seemed to work fine for about a month and then suddenly I started to get random drops where the adapter seems like it loses power and then attempts to reconnect. It disrupts my Internet and it occurs at random times and intervals. At first I thought it was the USB port but I've used different ones on my computer and get the same issue, but I know the port consistently supplies power to mice or keyboards using the same port.

I've also used the adapter on my laptop with no issues but I haven't used it much so not sure if it just didn't have a chance to occur. Does someone have an idea of what is going on and what I could do?

That's an USB driven adapter, are you on the latest BIOS version for your motherboard? Speaking of latest, have you tried manually reinstalling your chipset/USB drivers in an elevated command(assuming you're on Windows OS)?

If the adapter works on the laptop then the problem may be with the physical location of the USB ports on the PC (?).

Try using a USB extension cable to move the USB adapter up and away from the host computer's USB ports.

Doing so will help with the adapter's being able to receive and more importantly - transmit.

Plus those small adapters tend to get very warm and even hot. All the more so with age and use. Being up in "cooler" air away from the PC may prove helpful.

Before use, touch the adapter to get a sense of how warm it may be. Then while in use carefully touch the adapter again from time to time.

Determine if the apparent loss of power happens when/as the adapter heats up.
