Wireless Internet Slow on one computer fast on the rest. Was never this slow.

Hello everyone. I really hope someone can help me solve my problem. First off my PC specs (I recently built this PC)

Motherboard- MSI A78M-E35
Processor- AMD A10-7850K
R.A.M- 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X
Hard Drive- 1Tb Western digital blue
PSU- 430W Corsair CX430
Case- Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0
Wi-Fi Adapter – Asus USB-N53
OS – Windows 8.1 64-bit
Router-Netgear Range Max N150 Model WPN824N

My problem- Our ISP is comcast and we are paying for 25mbps download speed and the most ive ever gotten on this computer is 10mbps and that was after i called and they told me to unplug my router and plug it back in. Lately (past week) ive been getting about 1mbps download and 6 upload. On my dads computer an apple iMac he is getting around 25mbps download and 15 upload and he is about 3-4 feet from the router. My computer and room is right above the router by the wall of the house the signal only has to go up through the floor about 6 feet above. The internet is so bad that for the last week I have been trying to play on a minecraft multi-player server and I keep lagging/timing out. I have tried updating Wi-fi adapter drivers changing from 2.4 ghz only or 5 ghz only and nothing is working. I thought it was the router but i ran the same speed test (speedtest.net) on my android phone in the almost exact place my computer is and im getting around 15-18 download and 6-8 upload. Before I built my computer I had my laptop in the same place and never encountered this problem. I hope someone can please help me I am usually really good at computers but I just cant seem to figure this out i'm baffled. WiFi can be very inconistant and usb adapters are just not that great.

I would ditch the usb wifi adapter.
Since I am assuming you can not run an ethernet cable up the wall form downstairs to your room you can either get a powerline network adapter or a pci-e wifi adapter.
The powerline adapters are better suited for gaming or anything that needs fast ping/low latency. A wifi adapter can be better for heavy network transfers but you would need a high end router and a high end wifi card to notice an improvement over powerline adapter.

If you go for the powerline adapter, tp-link makes a decent kit that is rated up to 500mbps for around $50 (real world speeds is 70-80mbps).

So does this amplifiy the wifi signal or will I have to plug an ethernet from my router to one of them and an ethernet to my computer from the other? Im a little confused never worked with these before and on amazon it says no wires? Thank you for your time

The later.

You plug ethernet from router to adapter, plug adapter into wall, plug other adapter into wall at your room and run etherent to desktop. It sends the data via your power wire.

The "no wires" is misleading, it means no wires from the router room to your room.

Ok thank you one last question sorry internets not my forte ill stick to building computers lol could you link me to a standard ethernet cord thats fairly cheap but wont drop speeds?

Nevermind i looked on best buys website which is where i will most likely be buying these and it comes with cords. Sorry to keep bothering you but this specific kit isnt available at best buy stores could you try and find one thats just as good but is available in store. I dont really know what im looking for and id rather buy from the store than the internet Thank you.

When it comes to best buy (and most brick and motor stores) in regards to network products they generally carry the cheap stuff and the high end and very little in between.

I would buy from amazon 100 times over before I would drive 10 minutes to best buy and pay more money for their crappy selection of products.

Amazon, Newegg, and Monoprice are competitively priced, very fast shipping and very easy returns if you have an issue. It will take you far less time to call one of them and be satisfied with a return then spend the hour and half in best buy and leave wanting to murder someone.

As far as ethernet cable goes, the tplink cable should not be so cheap that it would degrade signal to any noticeable amount. If you want to buy a few cables then just buy from the site above. Cables plus shipping would be cheaper then 1 at best buy.

Thanks so much just picked up a netgear kit from best buy for $50 couldnt wait lol only problem is now i have a $30 wifi adapter laying around Download speeds at 28! I know its not the best but its better than one lol. When i plugged it in my moniter got all blue and glitched out got scared but it was just my silly vga cord thing hasnt screwed in right since i got it. Once again thanks alot saved me some money having to buy a whole new router the one i wanted was 150 lol


Okay so i turned off my computer got back on later did a test and im getting 5mbs download omg any suggestions nothing changed from before all signal lights are still green like before it was to good to be true

It should all be smoking fast. I only get about 5mbps down as well. 6 at best. To make it more interesting my computer is ethernet connected. Using the same connection, even the same ethernet cable, my laptop will do consistently 12-13 mbps.

Yes i got a powerline adapter it helps but i think its my internet thanks comacast
