I bought a TP-LINK TL-WN851ND but when I slot it into my PCI slot and turn the PC back on, as soon as I input my password/code for Windows, the computer freezes. The product say it's compatible to Windows 7, but I use Windows 10, and I've seen others who've bought the same product use it with both Windows 8.1, and 10, so I'm sure the product would work, but not sure why it makes my PC freeze. If it helps, my PC motherboard is a G1 Sniper Z97. I'd really appreciate some help with this, and I made a new thread because previous threads that I found are <2013.

Hi,

I have the same issue here and I am very fed up with my stupid TL-WN851ND...

When I bought it, I wanted to use it on Windows 8.1 and I had the same freezing issue. I managed to solve the problem thanks to some online research by installing the drivers in Compatibility Mode (right click on the setup.exe, select Properties, Compatibility, select Windows 7 and Run this program as an administrator).

Quite surprisingly, that worked well (no more freezing) until I updated to Windows 10 :/...

Windows 10 probably replaced the former driver with a newest one, and from now on I am struggling with the freezing issue again.

I tried to do the same trick with the compatibility mode, but that time that does not work: the card does not freezes the PC anymore but it disconnects from the Wi-fi network every 5 minutes or so. If I right click on the icon in the task bar and select the network trouble shooter then the card starts working again for 5 or so minutes...

According to this website, the card uses the Atheros AR9227 chipset, so I tried installing the latest Atheros AR9227 drivers from here: www.https://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=33&system=8

but then the freezes issue comes back.

So I am completely lost and have no more ideas apart of smashing this idiot card which pissed me off from the very beginning 😛 !!!

Could u please help :) ?

Thanks a lot!!

Wow, you've really been in the rut with yours haven't you? Hahah. I forgot about this thread tbh as I returned mine after giving up, so I'm just going to wait for a Windows 10 compatible adapter to release. I hope this thread helps you figure out the issue with yours though. Good luck! :)
