Hi I've got two PCs connected to the internet, one directly via ethernet (PC-1) and the other using a wireless adaptor (PC-2). When PC-1 is on, the internet for PC-2 is very slow even when there is nothing running on PC-1. However when PC-1 is turned off PC-2 speed is very fast. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem. Router is Netcomm NB5+4W and all settings are on default.

Is the internet slow on PC1 regardless?
Could you please give me ping results to google.com from both machines when running, and then from just the wireless PC2 when PC1 is off?

You can also do the same with a bandwidth test under both circumstances. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

My suspicion is that it is one of two things:
1. Malware on PC1 is causing network slowdown by demanding all the bandwidth. Try running an eset online virus scanner on PC1.
2. The Router/Modem is old and doesn't balance the loads well -- giving preference to one connection over the other regardless of usage. You'd need to replace the router. This is an old model that is no longer supported from what I can find online.

Let us know how the virus scan goes.
