My laptop's wireless network adapter is Realtek 8821AE, the system would frequently not detect it. It will not be detected in Device Manager at all when it is not working. I have reformatted the laptop, update the driver but the problem still persist.

My question is whether a Wifi adapter will solve the problem? For example, the TP Link AC450 Wireless Adapter. Can I bypass the inbuilt wireless adapter or will it still require it to be functioning properly?

Thank you!

if the unit is under warranty have the vendor send you a new card. if the unit is out of warranty before you buy a new usb device. take power and battery out. flip the laptop over and open the bottom of the case where the wifi card/ram is. make sure the wifi card is locked in to the mb. if it looks like it is reseat it. also write the service part and model down. if the card does not work even with newer drivers you can replace it with newer internal unit or go usb.

As long as it's the same internal unit or he may run into a BIOS whitelist. The OP didn't state which laptop he owns.
