Hello, I've got an AC1750 router and I'd like some help in finding a wireless solution for my gaming desktop. I've tried many USB 802.11ac adapters and they all tend to drop the connection randomly on my PC. My wireless router is fine, my smartphone and other devices work flawlessly with the WiFi.

I don't have any free PCI-E slots so I'm looking at an extender since I've had bad luck with USB adapters.

Will the extender affect latency in any way? I plan to have the setup something like:

AC1750 router -> AC1200 extender -> Ethernet (Desktop)

It introduces a 2nd hop, I want to know if the latency would be consistent and of a low value (<4ms)?

Thank you for reading, I would appreciate any advice.

The hop speed is not going to be as much of an issue as is just the normal, overall lower performance of wireless connectivity.

Wireless is subject to interference from the surrounding environment, other wireless networks and devices, etc..

You might try using a USB extension cable with respect to USB 802.11ac adapters - allows you to raise up the adapter and move it about to improve the wireless connectivity. Just few inches of movement can make a difference.

Still overall best if you can go wired.

If wired ethernet is not viable consider some powerline adapters - may or may not full wired performance but likely to be better than wireless.

Does have some dependencies on the home electrical circuits and overall condition of those...
