True or false my ISP says I must stay with 15MBS for wireless router to work. wanted to change to 6mbs plan

Hi,

It would be more helpful if you could clarify and elaborate a little more on your problem.

As a general statement, for a wireless router to work with an ISP it must have the correct requirements such as the ability to use PPPoE, Annex A and so on. The data plan could affect in such manner: The wireless router is capable of reading up to 10Mbps and you are receiving 20Mbps. This doesnt affect the functionality but the speed you will be loosing due to the router.

I think this problem should be discussed with your ISP as they would be more informative on their data plan and their system.

I'm not having any problems with the current speed of 15mbs from time warner but they wont give the 6mbs plan at a lower cost. They say any wireless router requires a 15mbs minimum to work. I have my own router and modem. I might have them switch plans and see what happens because other friends say they have 6mbs and wireless router works.

I never heard the statement "A wireless router requires at least 15Mbps to function" and don't think it is true. Unless the data plan of 6Mbps changes authentication methods, frequencies to which are not supported by the wireless router, the wireless router should, yet I stand to be corrected, work fine. You can try to change to the 6Mbps data plan and see the results and then either switch back to the 15Mbps plan or buy a router which the ISP states that works with the 6Mbps, if the current wireless router don't work.
