Wireless Usb Adapter Lag spike

Computer to far to be connected by cable so I got a Wireless usb adapter. Ping spikes randomly, but consistently. Every so often I lag and people skip aorund. I have googled some and found possible solutions. One requires me to log onto my router and change the channel I am on and unfortunately I can't do this until tomorrow.

I also found a reddit thread suggesting I go to the cmd promt and type: netsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=no interface="Wireless Network Connection" Unfortunately when I did this I received: There is no such wireless interface on the system, instead of: Auto configuration has been disabled on interface "Wireless Network Connection".

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I got this new computer so I could enjoy gaming more and this lag spike is just making me angry.

Need more details, how far is the computer from the router, what type of things are in the way, like walls. Brand and model of the adapter and the router. Even a good wireless adapter and router won't work well through interference. I suggest you actually try a few things you already looked up first.
